Recognized worldwide for his work and personality, Francisco Toledo is considered one of the greatest Mexican artists of the 21st century. He was a multidisciplinary artist, cultural promoter and social fighter in favor of indigenous people and the environment.
Through Rufino Tamayo he was able to study in Paris and sell his first works. Having experienced the artistic avant-gardes, his work began to have its own style and although he was associated with the Generation of the Rupture, he always established his autonomous character.
Among the constant themes in his work are fantastic, human and animal figures, sex, insects, the study of eschatology and Oaxacan traditions and culture. His work acts and raises plastic aspects, in which he proposes textures through shading with colors that generate sensory experimentation.
In 1988 he founded the Institute of Graphic Arts of Oaxaca, a space to disseminate and exhibit his private collection of graphic work, as well as works by other important Latin artists.
